Hurricane Ike Information

As hopefully all of you are aware, we are evacuating TLU as of today at 4 PM.  This is the email which was sent to all TLU Students, Faculty, and Staff:

Hurricane Ike is predicted to hit the Texas coast on Saturday morning as possibly a Category 4 storm. Voluntary evacuation of the coastal area has begun. Information we have received today from state and local emergency authorities forecasts sustained winds in excess of 60 miles per hour and rainfall of 6-8 inches in Seguin.  There is also a chance of flooding, tornadoes, and power or water outages.

To protect the safety of our students and allow them to be with their families during the storm, Texas Lutheran University announces the following:

  • Classes have been cancelled for Thursday evening (after 4 p.m.) and all day Friday.
  • Students are being asked to leave campus by 5 p.m. on Thursday and not to return before 4 p.m., Sunday. Students in residence halls must check out with their RAs before they leave.
  • If there are special circumstances where a student must remain on campus, the student should check in with his or her RA. Limited food service will be available.
  • Administrative offices will remain open regular business hours on Friday.
  • There will be no official university functions on Friday or Saturday
    • The Thursday night Pep Rally has been postponed.
    • The football game against Trinity has been moved to San Antonio and will be played on Thursday at 7 p.m.
    • Men’s soccer vs. Trinity has been rescheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday in San Antonio.
    • TLU volleyball will not participate in the Trinity Tournament, but will play a match against Trinity in San Antonio at 7 p.m. on Thursday.
    • Women’s soccer will play Schreiner in Kerrville at 3 p.m., Thursday, as scheduled.  A determination has not yet been made on Sunday’s match.

At the present time, the university will resume classes Monday morning. If this changes, TLU will send an e2campus text message. You will also receive breaking news or notice of immediate danger via e2campus.

If you have not signed up for e2campus, you can now - http://www.tlu.edu/E2campus .  Be sure to activate your signup when you have finished.

Mandalas take on Canterbury!

Yesterday we had an amazing meeting.  We had 3 new people!

We first ate, and then went into the couch area and talked about mediation.  Everyone took 2-4 Mandala patterns and handfuls of crayons, and went off to quiet areas all over the House and colored them.  After this we watched the Nooma video "Noise," and talked about how God wants us to be quiet so He can talk to us for a change.

See you next week!

P.S.  This is a Mandala colored by Rachel.  Enjoy!

This coming week!

This coming Thursday we will be having Canterbury at 7ish because we will have a special guest! Stacy Dowdy, the Diocese of West Texas Youth and Young Adult Ministry Officer.  She lives in Northwest San Antonio, so we are going to try and start at 7 so that she will be able to get back earlier to her home.  I understand that many of you are not able to come right at 7, and thats fine...just come when you can!

See you Thursday! have a great rest of your spring break!
